Holdfire Carefree Duo is a unique system designed for areas where a closing function is required but the door must be light enough for residents to use. There are a number of areas where the opening forces of fire door closers, even DDA compliant units, are too high to manage. Typical examples might be a toilet or bathroom door where a fire door and closer have been specified.

Carefree Duo has been designed for those areas where a DDA compliant door closer is too heavy but swing free or hold-open cannot be used for privacy reasons. An example might be a toilet door where some residents may forget
close the door behind them. Other examples might be classroom doors in infant schools. The unit has two closing power levels, a light closing action in normal operation and a fire door closing force when triggered to close.

Where a door closer is still required for privacy or security, swing free or hold open solutions are not suitable. Examples might be bathroom or toilet doors, entrance doors to sheltered accommodation or classroom doors in primary schools.
Carefree Duo is designed to overcome the issue of heavy closers. It operates at two power levels, low power for normal use and automatically switching to a power size 4 fire door closer on activation of the fire alarms.
The low power level is equivalent to a power size 1 door closer and offers a very low opening resistance; less than half that required by Doc M of the Building Regulations. This means that frail adults and young children can easily open the door.
When the fire alarms are activated, the power level steps up to a BS1154 compliant fire door closer. The door can still be opened but the closing pressure is the same as a normal door closer.
Operation:
- Carefree Duo is connected into the fire alarm system so that when the alarms are activated it automatically switches into full power mode.
- When the door is opened for the first time, the closing mechanism is “loaded” and the unit switches into low power mode. It remains in this mode until the fire alarms activate. Carefree Duo then automatically switches into full power mode to meet the required Fire & Building Regulations.
- Once the fire panel has been reset, the door is reset by opening it once again to load the mechanism which automatically switches back into low power mode.
Delivery
Standard delivery is 3 working days from the date the order was placed and items will be dispatched by courier. A signature will be required from the consignee on receipt of the goods.
If a custom finish is ordered the standard delivery is 15 working days from the date the order was placed.
Returns
Subject to a 15% handling charge, we will accept returns for refund provided the goods are returned unused and in their original packing. Carriage charges will not be refunded. Please contact us for returns instructions.
